CAIRO – 28 May 2019: Zamalek's participation in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is believed to have financially flourished the club's treasury with around L.E. 30 million in reward and ticket sales.
On Sunday, Zamalek SC won the CAF Confederation Cup against the Moroccan RSB Berkane, and as a result Zamalek will gain a reward of L.E. 21 million ($1.2 million). Berkane will receive $650,000 for reaching the finals.
Zamalek will receive a total of L.E. 6 million for winning the cup. Zamalek’s revenues of the massive fan attendance of the final match exceeded L.E. 3 million.
Held at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, the final match was attended by an estimate of 60,000 fans.
Zamalek entered Sunday’s match down 1-0 after losing the first leg in Morocco.
The Egyptian side managed to tie the fixture on aggregate at the end of regular time thanks to Mahmoud Alaa, as he smoothly converted a penalty kick early on in the second half.
The game went to penalties and Zamalek beat RSB Berkane 5-3 in the penalty shootout.
