CAIRO - 27 May 2019: Twitter has announced its partnership with Goal to produce an exclusive show around the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON); #YallaGoal. The first episode will stream on Wednesday the 19th of June.

Hosted by Egyptian content creator Medo (@MedoISC), the six-minute show will offer fast match reports, team profiles, breaking news, press conferences, exclusive interviews, as well as reactions from coaches, players and fans in the tournament.

The shows will be free and accessible globally to logged-in and logged-out users on Twitter and connected devices, and will be streamed via Goal’s Twitter account; @GoalAR. It will be aired on different days and times of the week.

Based on recent research conducted by consumer insight company Toluna, which examined user preferences for content and their interactions within the online video landscape among Twitter users in Egypt, the majority of Twitter users in Egypt (62%) consider Twitter as one of their main sources for online video content and also 55% have previously watched live-streamed content on Twitter. With Arabic as the preferred language, the most popular video content genre in Egypt is football. The most enjoyed videos around football in Egypt are match highlights (89%), behind the scenes (53%), player interviews (44%) and commentary and analysis (40%).

“Following the success of #YallaGoal European weekly, an Arabic sports show that covered the Big Five European football leagues late last year, we have extended our partnership with Goal to provide a similar experience during AFCON 2019,” said Kinda Ibrahim, Director of Media Partnerships, MENA, Twitter. “#YallaGoal European Weekly generated a total of 30 million video views, which include both the live and episode highlight clips.”

Ahmet Yavuz, Head of Content for Goal MENA said: “It has been a year since we have launched #YallaGoal for the first time. From that time we’ve reached almost every single football fan across MENA through special concepts of #YallaGoal. Now it’s time for AFCON 2019. We promise to deliver the most engaging content around the biggest football tournament in Africa.”

#YallaGoal AFCON is the fourth Arabic sports show to launch on Twitter in partnership with Goal. The first, #YallaGoal, covered football related news during the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, generating a total of 10 million video views. The following show was the #YallaGoal European Weekly which covered football related news during the Big Five European football leagues, generating 30 million video views. Most recently, Goal produced #YallaGoal Asian Cup around the AFC Asian Cup in January, generating a total of 12 million video views.

AFCON fans on Twitter should be able to quickly capture what’s happening during the tournament and share it with the right people. Earlier this year, Twitter updated its camera to make it easier to capture and share what people are seeing. If you’re at these games when you open the camera relevant hashtags like #TotalAFCON2019, #AFCON2019, and كأسالأممالأفريقية_2019# will pop up so you can easily tag your images or videos and get your Tweets into the AFCON event page and in front of the right audience.
