CAIRO – 29 April 2019: Zamalek Swiss manager, Christian Gross, revealed on Sunday that his team achieved an important victory at the first leg of CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals against Etoile du Sahel but they will have to fight to secure qualification to the final at the second leg in Sousse.
“I am satisfied with my players’ performance especially at the first half. We are awaiting a fierce clash at the second leg in Sousse and we have to be ready for this battle.” Gross told press after the game.
Zamalek achieved a 1-0 victory over Etoile du Sahel on Sunday night at Borg El Arab stadium.
This victory confirmed Zamalek’s supremacy against the Tunisian teams in Egypt as Zamalek never lost against a Tunisian team at home in 13 games winning 10 games and 3 games ended with a draw.
Zamalek dominated the game at the first half and their attacking line of Omar El said, Youssef Ibrahim and Mhamoud Abdelmonem known as Kahraba created many chances to score.
Zamalek’s only goal at the game came eight minutes before half time when Kahraba received the ball at the edge of the box and shot the ball at the back of the Tunisian net to make the score 1-0.
At the second half, Etoile du Sahel players searched for the equalizing goal but all their attempts were saved by Zamalek goalkeeper, Mahmoud Abdelrahim known as Gennesh who secure his team’s victory.
The second leg is scheduled on Sunday 5 May at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse.
