CAIRO - 7 April 2019: Zamalek's handball team defeated Al-Ahly 38-35 to reap Africa's Super Cup for the sixth time in their history in a thrilling match that took place on Thursday night in Morocco.

Zamalek succeeded to win against Al-Ahly for the second time in a row in the same competition. The White knights booked their tickets to the Handball Club World Cup which will take place in Saudi Arabia for the first time.

Egypt's two giants faced each other three times in Africa's Handball Super Cup. The first was in 2017 when Al-Ahly defeated Zamalek 29-23 in Agadir, Morocco. Zamalek took revenge for their loss in 2018, beating the Red Devils 21-20.

GS Pétroliers holds the record of winning the African Handball Super Cup of nine times trophy lifters.

Al-Ahly faced Zamalek at the African Handball Champions League’s final twice. The first was in 2012 which ended by a victory for the Reds 21-17. The second was in 2018 when Zamalek clinched the title by a 27-25 victory.

The Egyptian clubs featured in the African finals in the last seven editions.
