CAIRO – 6 JUNE 2017: The official FIFA website praised the Brazilian goalkeeper Nilson Dida for his record breaking match appearances in the Confederations cup. He holds a record of 12 clean sheets.

Dida played his last match in the Confederations cup in the final of 2005 against Argentina in Germany. The final appearance was number 22 for the Brazilian goalkeeper. He has more appearances than any other player, FIFA TV reported.

At the age of 24, Dida made his first appearance in The Confederations Cup in Saudi Arabia in 1997. He allowed only two goals in all the tournament as Brazil went on to win the title.

He also started every match Brazil participated in between 1999 and 2001. He went on to finish the group stage without a single goals being scored , but they lost and left both tournaments at the knockout stages. 2003 was a Cup full of failure for the Brazilian team, which didn’t pass the group phase.

Dida added another clean sheet to his record. Dida managed to play with a clean sheet in 2005 too. He also played five times and won the Championship two times in his last appearance according to the Fifa Official website.

Dida intented to retire from International football after the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In 2016 the two time Champions League winner put his football career to an end by retiring with Sport Club International in the Brazilian Série B , according to transfermarketweb.com website.
