CAIRO – 1 January 2018: CAF announced on Tuesday their shortlist for 2018 African Player of the year award and Liverpool’s Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, is among the nominees.
Salah is nominated for the award alongside his teammate in Liverpool, Sadio Mane, and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the winner will be announced on January 8 in Dakar, Senegal.
The shortlist includes the same nominees from last season when Salah achieved the award for the first time.
Salah has had an amazing season with Liverpool as he led his team to UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid but he only played 25 minutes and left the pitch after suffering an injury and followed his team’s 3-1 loss from the stands.
The Egyptian scored 44 goals last season at all competitions, including 32 goals at the league that granted him the Premier League Golden Boot award.
This season, Salah suffered a frustrating start with his team but he regained his form and scored 13 goals at the league for Liverpool after 20 games leading his team to Premier League leadership.
He also scored a decisive goal against Napoli at home that secured his team’s qualification to second round.
Salah received BBC African Player of the Year award and became the second player to win the award twice in a row after Nigeria’s Jay-Jay Okocha.
