1st Arab Tunisian woman to reach 3rd round: French Open

CAIRO – 1 June 2017: Tunisian Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the third round of a Grand Slam singles tournament after defeating champion Dominika Cibulkova, 6-4, 6-3 Wednesday.

She is also the first lucky loser to reach the third round of Roland Garros since Gloria Pizzichini has done it in 1996, WTA reported. “I forgot already about being a lucky loser,” that is how she reacted after the match.

Jabeur was nearly out of the tournament when she lost to Miyu Kato in three sets in the final round of qualifying, but she was lucky enough to get the lucky loser card and beat Ana Bogdan in first round.
