CAIRO – 25 December 2018: English club, Wigan Athletic, announced on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement with their Egyptian midfielder, Sam Morsy, to renew his contract with the club.
The Egyptian international player will be committed to the club that runs in the championship until 2021.
“Samy is a really important player for the club and I know our supporters will be really pleased with this news,” Wigan manager, Paul Cook, told the club's official website on Tuesday.
Morsy, born in England to an Egyptian father, joined the club in 2016 from Chesterfield and since then he has proved himself as one of the key players at the squad that led the team to win promotion to Championship twice in 2015 and 2017.
Paul added, “He has deserved everything he has got in terms of his place at the World Cup last summer and now his new contract here at Wigan.”
Morsy represented Egypt at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and he featured in Egypt’s 1-0 loss to Uruguay.
Morsy, 27, has been Wigan Athletic Captain since August 2017 and he hopes to lead his team to their first return to the Premier League since 2013.
