CAIRO – 25 December 2018: Al-Ahly striker, Marwan Mohsen, revealed on Monday that reaching the CAF Champions League Group stage is a big step towards achieving the title.

“It is an important step to reach the group stage and we have the desire to do our best to reach the final and win the title.” Mohsen told press on Monday.

Al-Ahly reached the group stage despite their 1-0 loss to Ethiopia’s Jimma Aba Jifar but the Egyptian team achieved a 2-0 victory at the first leg at home.

Mohsen added” We faced difficult circumstances in Ethiopia and the pitch was not suitable to play our football.”

Al-Ahly failed to achieve their 9th title at the competition as they lost the last two Champions League Finals to Wydad Casablanca and Esperence respectively.

Al-Ahly appointed Uruguayan manager, Martin Lasarte, as the first team manager and he will start his mission with the team against Pyramids on January.4.

The Champions League group stage draw is set to be held on Friday Dec. 28 in Cairo; Al-Ahly and Ismaily will represent Egypt at the draw.
