CAIRO – 4 December 2018: Liverpool's Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, finished the Ballon d’Or award race at the sixth position behind Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel messi.
Salah is the first Egyptian player ever to be nominated for the award.
Salah won the nomination after an amazing season with his club, Liverpool, having scored 44 goals, including 32 goals in the league to be the Premier League's top goal scorer.
He also led Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time since 2007 but he was injured during the first half and watched his team lose the final 3-1 to Real Madrid.
Additionally, Salah led the Egyptian national team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia for the first time since 1990 in Italy but the shoulder injury he picked at the UEFA Champions League final affected his performance at the tournament.
Salah came ahead of many top players like Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane who finished seventh, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who finished eighth and PSG’s Neymar Jr Da Silva who finished at the 12th place.
