CAIRO – 2 November 2018: The Video Assistant Referee ‘VAR’ technique is being applied for the first time in Africa in the final match of the CAF Champions League on the basis of the decision of CAF, which trained a group of referees to use them, including referee Mahdy Ebeid, who will rule the expected clash, and Gambian referee, Bakri Gassama, who will perform the video technique.

The lens spotted the position of the VAR screen at Burg Al Arab stadium before being used in Al-Ahly and ES Tunis match on Friday night.

Borg El Arab Stadium hosts on Friday the Confederation of African Football (CAF) final between the Egyptian club, Al-Ahly, and Tunisia’s league 8th placed, ES Tunis at 9:00 p.m. CLT.

Al-Ahly and ES Tunis met in 18 confrontations before tonight’s clash, the ‘Red devils’ won seven games, while the ‘Blood & Gold’ team won three times, and the tie drew eight games. Al-Ahly scored 19 goals while the Tunisian champions scored 11 goals.


Al-Ahly’s expected line-up:

Mohamed el-Shenawy (GK); Ahmed Fathy, Saad Samir, Coulibaly and Ayman Ashraf (DEF); Hossam Ashour, Amr el-Soleya, Islam Mohareb, Walid Soliman and Ahmed Hamoudy (MID); Walid Azzarou (ATT).

ES Tunis’ expected line-up:

Moez Cheryfeya (GK); Sameh Derbali, Hussein el-Rabea, Chams el-Din Zouadi, Khalil Chemam (DEF); Franck Kom, Coulibali, Ghilan Chelali (MID); Anice el-Badry, Taha Yessine Khenissi and Youssef Belaily (ATT).
