MADRID, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Real Madrid have loaned French left back Theo Hernandez out to fellow La Liga side Real Sociedad for the upcoming season, the two clubs said on Friday.
"Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the loan of one season of Theo Hernandez. An agreement has also been reached with the player, who passed a medical examination this morning," said a statement from Sociedad, who finished 12th in Spain's top flight last season.
The younger brother of France World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez, Theo, 20, became the first player in 17 years to cross the divide from Atletico to city rivals Real Madrid last year following an impressive spell on loan at Alaves.
He made 23 appearances in all competitions last season for Madrid following his 30-million-euro ($34.4 million) move. However, he rarely hit the form he frequently displayed at Alaves and was always behind influential left back Marcelo in the pecking order for the biggest games.
