CAIRO – 23 May 2017: Egypt national team manager Hector Cuper once again voiced his disagreement over the domestic matches’ scheduling, which clashes with the team’s preparations for the international games.
The scheduling process is carried out by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
Cuper vetoed organizing the domestic Super Cup on August 10, only five days after the finale of the Arab Club Championship in which Al-Ahly SC and Zamalek SC international players will be heavily immersed into.
The Egyptian Super Cup normally gets the Egyptian Premier League’s champions clash with Egypt’s Cup winner, expected to be held between the two Cairo giants Al-Ahly and Zamalek.
Cuper demanded the Super Cup games to get postponed lest players get over-exhausted before Uganda’s two-leg tie slated for August 28 and September 5; the high-profile game is a stepping stone for the World Cup qualification.
Earlier in May, the Argentine coach also vetoed the decision of starting the 2017-2018 Egyptian Premier League in mid-September and opted for August instead.
He claimed that players of the National Team, from local teams other than Ahly or Zamalek, should play at least three game rounds before Uganda’s knock-out tie.
The 2016-2017 season is scheduled to be over in mid-July with Al-Ahly SC being in the top rank.
