CAIRO- 8 August 2018: Aston Villa Egyptian defender, Ahmed el-Mohamady, has had a great night on Monday when he led his team to defeat his former team, Hull City, 3-1 at their opening game of Championship at Hull City Stadium.

Hull City opened the score after seven minutes by Evandro Goebel but the visitors needed just seven minutes to equalize the score by Tommy Elphick’s header.

Mohamady’s moment came 20 minutes before the final whistle when he received the ball outside the box and his shot found the target to make the score 2-1.

The Egyptian refused to celebrate in front of his former club fans as he wore Hull City’s jersey between 2012 and 2017.

Alan Hutton secured Villa’s victory when he scored the third goal minutes before the final whistle.

“We showed character to get back into it and in the second half we improved. I was pleased with the second half. We upped the tempo and moved the ball quicker,” Aston Villa manager, Steve Bruce, told press after the game.

Aston Villa, who lost last season’s play-offs game to Fulham, hopes to return to the Premier League this season after three years of absence.

Aston Villa hosts Wigan Athletic on Saturday at their first home game of the season.
