CAIRO – 19 July 2018: Saudi Arabian Football Federation Secretary-General, Louay al-Subaie, revealed on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with the Egyptian Football Association to revive the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup competition.
“The games were scheduled for July 25, 26 but Al-Ahly’s game against Township Rollers at CAF Champions League on July 28 forced us to postpone it,” Subaie told press.
Egyptian League champions, Al-Ahly, will challenge Saudi League Champions, Al-Hilal, for King Salman’s League Winners' Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Egyptian Cup champions, Zamalek, will challenge Al-Ittihad in Cairo to win President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s Cup.
Subaie added: “We will hold a meeting with the Egyptian side on Sunday to decide the dates of the games.”
The Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup was played twice in 2001 and 2003.
In 2001, Al-Hilal won King of Saudi Arabia Cup defeating Ismaily 2-1, while Al-Ittihad won President of Egypt Cup defeating Al-Ahly 3-2.
In 2003, Al-Ittihad won King of Saudi Arabia Cup defeating Ismaily 1-0, while Zamalek won President of Egypt Cup defeating Al-Ittihad in penalty shoot-out.
