Al Ahly officially boycotts IHF Super Globe in Qatar

CAIRO – 18 July 2018: Al-Ahly announced on Wednesday that the club will not participate in the International Handball Federation’s Super Globe which will be played in Qatar next October.

The club decision came after an invitation from the Egyptian Football Federation to the club to participate at the tournament.

2018 IHF super globe is the eleventh edition of the competition, nine of them hosted by Doha and the other two hosted by Cairo and Vienna.

African Super Cup winners, Zamalek, had previously said they would not participate in the Super Globe as long as it is held in Qatar.

Both teams boycott the sports events in Qatar since the decision of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and a number of other Arab Gulf countries cut ties with Qatar on June 5, 2017, over the small Gulf nation’s alleged support to terrorists.

Barcelona, who won a record of three IHF Super Globe titles including the last one, will participate at the tournament.
