CAIRO – 11 July 2018: Premier League champions, Manchester City, completed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City. The player costs City a club record of £60 million that could rise to £75 million with contract add-ons.
The 27-year-old is Pep Guardiola’s first major signing of the summer. Mahrez has signed a five-year contract and will wear number 26 jersey.
“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” the player told City’s official website.
“Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining English football and I want to be a part of it.”
“I believe we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management,” Mahrez concluded.
Leicester City has also confirmed that this deal is a club sale record, as they have bought Mahrez for only £450,000 from AC Le Havre in 2014.
Mahrez joined Leicester City in 2014, helping the club win the Sky Bet Championship in the same year before playing a major role in their 2015/2016 Premier League praiseworthy triumph.
