CAIRO – 7 July 2018: The Egyptian Football Association has footed many steps in their negotiations with Morocco’s French coach Hervé Renard to succeed Hector Cuper in the Egyptian team leadership in the coming period, bringing the negotiations to an advanced stage.

Renard, who led Morocco to present amazing performance in their three World Cup matches, welcomed the Egyptian offer and agreed with the officials of the EFA to send the financial details of his contract.

Renard, who started coaching in Africa in 2008, led Morocco to shine in the 2018 World Cup.

Renard

Despite their early exit, Morocco gave amazing performances against 2010 World Cup winner, Spain, and 2016 UEFA EURO winner, Portugal.

Morocco lost to Iran 1-0 from an own goal seconds before the final whistle and lost to Portugal with the same score, despite being the better side at both games.

They ended their last game at the competition with a 2-2 draw against Spain and they were leading the score till the last minute.

Egypt has offered Renard $120k as a monthly salary as his contract with Morocco was less than the Egyptian offer by $40k, according to EFA source.

The EFA has another plan if the negotiations with Renard stopped; they contacted former Brazil’s coach in 2014, Luiz Felipe Scolari, according to Brazililan reports.

Scolari

Scolari is best known for leading his home country to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2012 FIFA Confederation Cup titles.

Egypt had a disastrous run at FIFA 2018, losing all three games at the group stage.
Egypt started their participation against Uruguay, where they lost 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Uruguayan defender José Giménez.

Egypt also lost the second game 3-1 to the host nation, Russia, with Mohamed Salah scoring Egypt’s only goal.

Cuper

Egypt lost 2-1 at the Arab derby against Saudi Arabia, despite leading the score by a goal from Mohamed Salah. However, the Saudi team returned with two goals by each of Salman el-Farag and Salem al-Dawsri.
