CAIRO – 5 July 2018: The FIFA Referees Committee announced the referees who will officiate the next phase of the 2018 World Cup in Russia and Egyptian referee, Gehad Grisha, was not included in the list.
Grisha took charge of the England-Panama game at group G in the World Cup. The game ended with a 6-1 victory for the European side.
Grisha was among 36 referees, including six Africans, who were chosen to officiate at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Grisha, who received his international stripes in 2008, is one of the African continent’s experienced referees.
He refereed at the 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 African Cup of Nations tournaments, 2015 CAF Champions League final, 2016 Olympic Games and 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The committee selected 17 referees, 37 assistant referees and 10 video assistant referees for the remaining eight games of the tournament.
The committee appointed Argentina’s Nestor Pitana for Uruguay's game against France and Serbia’s Milorad Mazic for Brazil's game against Belgium.
Dutch Referee, Bjorn Kuipers, was appointed for England's game against Sweden and Brazil’s Sandro Ricci was appointed for Croatia's game against Russia.
The quarter finals will start on Friday June 6.
