CAIRO – 27 June 2018: Egypt national team's assistant manager, Mahmoud Fayez, announced on Tuesday the departure of Egypt’s coaching staff, led by Hector Cuper, after the World Cup early exit.

Fayez sent an emotional message to the Egyptian fans after the Egyptian Football Federation decided not to renew the contract with Cuper and his coaching staff after Egypt’s poor performance in the World Cup.

“Monday was the last day of our contract with the national team. It was the best three and half years in my life. We have experienced different emotions and we were hoping for a better end,” Fayez posted on his Facebook account.

Egypt had a disastrous run at FIFA 2018, losing all three games at the group stage.
Egypt started their participation against Uruguay, where they lost 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Uruguayan defender José Giménez.

Egypt also lost the second game 3-1 to the host nation, Russia, with Mohamed Salah scoring Egypt’s only goal.

Egypt lost 2-1 at the Arab derby against Saudi Arabia, despite leading the score by a goal from Mohamed Salah. However, the Saudi team returned in the game with two goals by each of Salman el-Farag and Salem al-Dawsri.

Fayez added “I apologize to all the Egyptian fans and I want to thank everyone. You should support your team, your players. We have raised our flag at the biggest event in the World after 28 years of absence. Let the flag be held aloft.”

The Egyptian national football team delegation arrived on Tuesday in Cairo International Airport from Russia, after being eliminated from the 2018 World Cup's first stage.
