Cairo -26 June 2018: Egypt former football player Wael Gomaa believes that the strategy of Hector Cuper, the national team’s manager, was behind Egypt’s early exit from 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“Clear tactical mistakes by Cuper led to the early exit. He led us to the World Cup, but his era should be end and another managed signed on,” Gomaa commented after Egypt’s tragic third loss at the competition.

Egypt had a disastrous run at FIFA 2018, losing their three games at the group stage.

Egypt started their participation against Uruguay, where they lost 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Uruguayan defender José Giménez.

Egypt also lost the second game 3-1 to the host nation, Russia, with Mohamed Salah scoring Egypt’s only goal.

Egypt lost 2-1 at the Arab derby against Saudi Arabia, despite leading the score by a goal from Mohamed Salah. However, the Saudi team returned in the game with two goals by each of Salman El- Farg and Salem Al-Dawsri.

The Egyptian Football Association decided to put an end to national team manager Hector Cuper’s era after the team’s poor performance at the World Cup, according to sources speaking to Egypt Today.

Uruguay leads the Group table with 9 points, while Russia is at the second position with six points, Saudi Arabia at the third position with three points and Egypt at the bottom of the group with 0 points.
