CAIRO – 15 June 2018: Squash Egyptian player and World Number 1, Nour el Sherbini, arrived in Russia on Thursday to support Egypt national team at the 2018 World Cup.
The player who achieved seven of the season’s 11 titles is a diehard football fan; she watched Egypt 2-0 victory over Ghana at the qualifiers from Borg El Arab stands.
“I have followed football since I was a kid watching the games with my family and I always had a dream to watch the national team at the World Cup,” Sherbini told Filgoal.
Sherbini, born in 1995, will watch the national team at the World Cup for the first time as Egypt never qualified to the tournament since their second participation in 1990 in Italy.
Asked about her predictions for the tournament, she said “We are playing in a tough group but I think we can make it to the second round. I think Brazil are the favorites to win the title.”
Sherbini will watch Egypt's first game at the World Cup against Uruguay from the stands of Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg.
“Many Egyptian fans have arrived in Russia to support the national team and the atmosphere here is great,” added Sherbini.
The World Cup draw put Egypt in Group A alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and the host nation, Russia.
