CAIRO – 31 May 2018: Russia lost 1-0 to Austria on Wednesday night at Tivoli-Neu in Austria during the Russian preparations for the 2018 World Cup.
Russia failed to achieve any victory in 2018 as they lost to Brazil and France in March before losing to Austria.
Russia’s last victory came against South Korea when Russia won 4-2 in October 2017.
Alessandro Schopf scored Austria's winning goal in the game after 27 minutes from the start, and Marko Arnautovic provided the assist for the goal.
“We have to improve our passing, we created one, two chances to score but we have to do more," Russia's coach, Stanislav Cherchesov, told Austrian broadcaster ORF after the game.
Russia are set to end their World Cup preparations against Turkey at home on Tuesday June 5 before the World Cup opening against Saudi Arabia on June 14.
Russia plays in Group A in the World Cup alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Egypt.
Egypt will face Russia in their second game of the group stage on June 19.
Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, attended the game from the stands to follow Austria’s Arnautovic who has been linked with a move to Manchester after his great performance with West Ham last season.
