Despite Salah’s injury, Egypt is ready: Elmohamady

CAIRO – 30 May 2018: Egypt’s right-back, Ahmed Elmohamady, hopes to achieve good results in the 2018 World Cup despite the possible absence of Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool’s medical staff believes that Salah will have to face three or four weeks of absence, which threatens his participation in the very important game against Uruguay, Egypt’s first game in the World Cup, scheduled for June 14 in Russia, according to The Independent.

“We await Salah to join us in the World Cup matches; I hope he gets well soon,” Elmohamady said in an interview with ON Sport channel.

“In case he misses any of the first three games, I am sure that the replacement will be ready,” Elmohamady assured.

“Nobody can deny Salah’s importance to Egypt, so we all want him to play the first match against Uruguay,” Elmohamady concluded.

Elmohamady, an Aston Villa defender, is set to rest in the match against Colombia.
Elmohamady joined the national team camp in Italy on Monday after he participated in Villa’s 1-0 loss to Fulham in the Championship play-off on Saturday and failed to get promotion to next season's Premier League.


Egypt is preparing to participate in the 2018 World Cup in Russia after 28 years of absence. Egypt is set to play two friendly games against Colombia and Belgium on June 1 and June 6, respectively.


The national team plays in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and the host nation, Russia.
