CAIRO – 18 May 2018: Italy defeated Belgium 2-1 on Thursday at UEFA EURO U-17 semi-finals at New York Stadium, Rotherham,reachingthe final for the first time since 2003 when they lost the title to Russia.
Italy opened the score after 30 minutes when Emmanuel Gyabuaa met a cross from the left flank to make the score 1-0.
Belgium equalized the score after 12 minutes from the second half start by a strikefrom YorbeVertessen.
Italy scored the winning goal 20 minutes before the final whistle by EdoardoVergani from a screamer to make the score 2-1 and grant his team a ticket to the final.
“It was a really good match. Two strong teams and we played very well in the first half. At the start of the second half, we suffered from their pressing game but after they equalized, we started to play football and I think we deserved the result,” Italy coach, Carmine Nunziata, told press after the victory.
Italy will face the winner between Netherlands and the hosts, England, at the final.
