CAIRO – 15 May 2018: Al-Ahly's board of directors accepted Hossam el-Badry's resignation on Tuesday after Al-Ahly's loss against Kampala City in Uganda in the CAF Champions League.
"Al-Ahly’s football committee, headed by Mahmoud Al-Khatib, agreed to accept Hossam el-Badry's resignation from the team coach position," Al-Ahly said in a statement published on its official website.
"And [the committee] tasked Ahmed Ayoub, the general coach, to lead the team in the remaining game against Al-Masry in the last match of the Egyptian League scheduled for next Sunday. The football committee will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss the future vision of the team," the statement continued.
Al-Ahly continued their recent bad results, as they suffered a 2-0 loss against Kampala City FC on Tuesday in the second round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Al-Ahly now places fourth in the first group with only one point, while Kampala places second with three points.
The Reds have been suffering since they were defeated 1-2 by Zamalek in the Egyptian League. Since then, Al-Ahly hasn’t won a single game, as they were eliminated from the Egyptian Cup by Al-Assiouty in the quarter-final with a 0-1 loss, followed by a 0-0 draw against Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive at Borg El Arab Stadium. Then comes the loss against Kampala and it seems Al-Ahly is in a real crisis.
However, Badry led Al-Ahly for almost two years. He achieved the Egyptian League twice, the 2017 Egyptian Cup after seven years of absence, the 2018 Egyptian Super Cup and reached the 2017 CAF Champions League final.
