CAIRO – 13 May 2018: Robert Lewandowski's dream of signing for Real Madrid next season could have been broken. According to reports on Friday by Sky Sports Germany, the White club has broken negotiations with the Polish player and his agent, Pini Zahavi, the 74-year-old Israeli who also plays a key role in the attempt to sign Neymar.

Bayern's position of strength, which insists on not selling, leads Madrid to believe that the operation is beyond its reach, as explained by the German television network.

This information supports the statements made on May 9 by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, general manager of Bayern, insisting that the striker will continue at Bayern next season. "We are very fortunate to have Lewandowski and even more that he has signed a long contract with us. There is nothing to worry about. He will also play at Bayern Munich next season," he said.

Real Madrid once again comes up against Bayern's strong stance with regard to Lewandowski, who has a contract until 2021.

"No one can sign a Bayern player against the will of Bayern," Rummenigge says. In 2009, when the Whites wanted to sign Ribéry, the German leaders cut short their intentions. "We will denounce Madrid to FIFA if it insists, because he has a contract," said Hoeness.

But Lewandowski, who turns 30 in August, is still determined to leave Bayern. He changed his agent (Kucharski gave way to Pini Zahavi) with the plan of “softening” Bayern to make his move to Real Madrid possible.

"Robert's transfer is a difficult and delicate operation. No one can say if Lewandowski will be here or there,” his agent warned in an interview with the newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane had already given the green light to the signing, but everything has been postponed by the demands of the club in Munich.
