CAIRO – 8 May 2018: Zamalek board member Ismail Youssef revealed his happiness with the players’ massive victory over Ismaily in the Egyptian Cup semi-final on Sunday night.
“It was our best game this season. The players had an amazing performance throughout the whole game against a talented team,” Youssef told press on Monday.
Zamalek reached the Egyptian Cup final for the 39th time in their history, and Zamalek players hope to reconcile their fans after a disastrous season by achieving their 26th Cup title.
“The players’ desire to win was behind the big result; they continued playing attacking football and searching for more goals, which was great to watch,” Youssef added.
Zamalek defeated Ismaily 4-1 on Monday night in the Egyptian Cup semi-final at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
Zamalek needed only 11 minutes to open the score by their striker Youssef Ibrahim, commonly known as Obama, when he received the ball from Mohamed Antar and put the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Zamalek doubled the score after eight minutes by their midfielder Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, who followed the ball inside the opponent’s box to make the score 2-0.
Zamalek continued their dominance in the second half and they scored the third goal after 15 minutes through Obama, and Kasongo Kabongo added the fourth goal for his team.
Ismaily scored their only goal in the game after 76 minutes through Mohamed Sadek.
Zamalek will face the winner between Smouha and Al Assiouty, who will face each other on Tuesday.
Youssef spoke about the final, saying, “It will be more difficult than the game against Ismaily. The players should concentrate to achieve the title and reach the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup.”
