Soccer, Egyptian Cup semi-final, 7,5,2018, Zamalek players celebrate scoring against Ismaily, Karim Abdel Aziz
CAIRO – 7 May 2018: Zamalek defeated Ismaily 4-1 on Monday night in the Egyptian Cup semi-final at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
Zamalek needed only 11 minutes to open the score by their striker Youssef Ibrahim, commonly known as Obama, when he received the ball from Mohamed Antar and put the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Zamalek doubled the score after eight minutes by their midfielder Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, who followed the ball inside the opponent’s box to make the score 2-0.
Ismaily had many chances to score in the remaining minutes of the first half, but Zamalek goalkeeper Omar Salah saved his team to end the first half 2-0.
Zamalek continued their dominance in the second half and they scored the third goal after 15 minutes through Obama, who dribbled past three Ismaily defenders and their goalkeeper, Mohamed Awwad, putting the ball in the net to make the score 3-0.
Kasongo Kabongo added the fourth goal for Zamalek two minutes later after he received a pass from Tarek Hamed that put him one on one with Awwad, who failed to stop Kasongo’s shot.
Ismaily scored their only goal in the game after 76 minutes through Mohamed Sadek.
Zamalek’s victory sent them to the Egyptian Cup final for the 39th time in their history, and Zamalek players hope to reconcile their fans after a disastrous season by achieving their 26th Cup title.
Zamalek will face the winner between Smouha and Al Assiouty, who will face each other on Tuesday.
