CAIRO – 5 May 2018: Egyptian football legend Mohamed Aboutrika believes that Stoke City’s Egyptian midfielder, Ramadan Sobhy, has to leave his team after they relegated.
Stoke City was relegated on Saturday after losing to Crystal Palace 1-2, ending their 10-year stay in the top tier of the English game.
“Being with Stoke could be a waste of another career year; the playing style of most teams in England does not suit him. He needs a club that attacks constantly and does not depend only on long balls or rebounds,” Aboutrika said as a pundit at BeIn Sports network.
“Ramadan has to wait until the end of the World Cup, as he may get a suitable offer. If not, then joining Al-Ahly will be better,” he added.
Al-Ahly coach Hossam el-Badry revealed that he contacted Sobhy, asking him to rejoin the Red Devils.
“I contacted Ramadan and he wants to come back, but he will wait for Stoke’s situation in the Premier League,” Badry said. Sobhy is waiting to know whether Stoke City will relegate to the lower division or not; in the case they do, he will return to Al-Ahly.
“Sobhy is very talented; he can succeed anywhere, but Stoke’s bad results and changing of head coaches affected him a lot this season,” Badry added.
“I like Sobhy despite him being a troublemaker [laughing]. He will be very useful for us,” Badry concluded.
