CAIRO – 5 May 2018: Al-Ahly started their journey in the 2018 CAF Champions League with a goalless draw when they hosted Tunisian team Esperance Sportive at Borg El-Arab Stadium in the first round of the group stage.
Al-Ahly failed to convert their chances throughout the match into goals. The Tunisian side secured the first point in the group in a tough stadium.
Al-Ahly started the match with the main line-up: (GK) Mohamed El-Shennawy; (DEF) Sabry Raheel, Mohamed Naguib, Ayman Ashraf, Ahmed Fathy; (MID) Hossam Ashour, Amr El-Soleya, Walid Soliman, Mido Gaber; (ATT) Marwan Mohsen, Paka.
In the first half, Amr El-Soleya suffered an injury and was substituted by Mohamed Hany.
In the second half, Marwan Mohsen scored a goal, but it was disallowed by the referee due to the offside rule.
Al-Ahly coach Hossam el-Badry tried to refresh his attacking line by giving the chance to his talented midfielder, Islam Mohareb, but he didn’t change the score.
