CAIRO – 1 May 2018: Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah added a new title to his record sheet for the current season after he won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award on Tuesday.

Salah had a magnificent season with Liverpool in the Premier League and Champions League, scoring 43 goals in all competitions, 31 of them were scored in the PL, making him lead the top scorers’ list. He led his team to the semi-finals of the CL, and it is strongly expected for Liverpool to reach the CL final after 11 years of absence.

The voting ended Monday night, after more than 400 journalists voted for the player of the year, which resulted in Salah topping Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, who came second, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, who came third. It is worth mentioning that Salah is the first African player to win the FWA Footballer of the Year award.

FWA Chairman Patrick Barclay praised the Egyptian winger, saying, “Mo Salah is the worthiest of winners. He is also the first African to receive the award and we congratulate him on a magnificent season.”

Former English professional footballer and current sports broadcaster Gary Lineker, who holds England's record for goals in FIFA World Cup finals with 10 goals, also commented on Salah’s new title for this season.
