CAIRO- 30 April 2018: French handball team Montpellier defeated Germany’s SG Flensburg-Handewitt 29-17 at the EHF Champions League quarter finals second leg on Sunday night.
“There is a huge sense of pride, but also this qualification is a reward for all the work this team has done over the past years.” Montpellier’s manager, Patrice Canayer told press after the game.
The first leg in Germany ended with a 28-28 draw and the French team qualified to the semi-finals for the first time since 2005.
Canayer added “I told the players that it was a good thing to be at this level, but we had to make bigger things happen and they did.”
Montpellier’s Egyptian Pivot, Mohamed Hashem played a great role at his team’s achievement and he became the first Egyptian player to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Montpellier reached the semi-finals alongside France’s Paris Saint Germain, France’s HBC Nantes and Macedonia’s Vardar and they are expecting the semi-finals’ draw on Wednesday.
Germany’s Cologne will host the EHF Champions League semi-finals on May 26 and the final on May 27.
