CAIRO – 28 April 2018: Marwan El-Shorbagy and Raneem El-Welily were crowned the El Gouna International Squash Open champions on Friday.
Shorbagy, ranked fourth on the PSA list, defeated his compatriot Ali Farag, ranked second, 3-0 to reap the title for the first time in his career.
Meanwhile, in the women’s competition, Welily, ranked second, defeated Nour El-Sherbiny, the world’s number one, 3-1 in the final game.
The best squash players in the world participated in the seventh edition of El Gouna International Squash Open, which was held in the Red Sea governorate from April 20 to 27 under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Tourism Authority.
This edition of El Gouna International Squash Open featured the Men’s and Women’s PSA World Series events, offering an equal prize of $165,000 each.
Sameeh Saweras, owner of El Gouna Resort, assured that the tournament will be held next year.
