CAIRO – 25 April 2018: Roma captain Daniele De Rossi suffered a tough night on Tuesday, as his team lost 5-2 to Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. However, the Italian revealed his happiness for his former teammate and current Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah.
“We know Salah is a great player and also a great person. I’m happy for him, even if it cost us,” De Rossi said after the game.
Salah scored the first two goals in the game, but he refused to celebrate scoring against his former club.
He also provided two assists to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who added the third and the fourth goals, respectively.
Asked about the difference between Salah at Liverpool and his days at Roma, De Rossi said, “He has improved so much in the final third and is becoming as decisive as we all thought he could be.”
Salah had an amazing two seasons with Roma, as he scored 32 goals and was named the best player on the team in both seasons.
The Egyptian took the Premier League by storm this season, scoring 31 goals to be the Premier League top goal scorer.
Roma will host Liverpool on Wednesday, May 2 in the second leg, and the Italian team hopes to repeat their comeback over Barcelona in the quarter-finals to reach the final.
