CAIRO – 20 April 2018: Julio Cesar, the Brazilian goalkeeper who announced his retirement in December 2017, has revealed that he had a conversation with Jose Mourinho, the current Manchester United coach, on the Spanish goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, who is now in Porto.
Julio César, who has a good relationship with Iker Casillas, has highlighted in an interview with SporTV that Jose Mourinho called him after the victory of Brazil over Spain in the final match of the 2013 Confederations Cup. Cesar was chosen as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Casillas had problems with Mourinho when the Portuguese coach was in charge of Real Madrid. The Spanish veteran ended up sitting on the bench for his compatriot, Real Madrid’s coach, Diego Lopez.
Mourinho was Inter Milan’s coach in 2010 when Julio Cesar was their goalkeeper.
Julio César received a call from Jose Mourinho right after finishing the Confederations Cup final.
"When I got to the dressing room, I saw a message from Mourinho on my phone," Cesar told Brazilian broadcaster SporTV.
"He said: 'You're crazy, it's Casillas who should be putting on your shirt, not the other way around'.”
Cesar reveals also that he was keen to setup a meeting between Mourniho and Casillas before the departure of Mourinho from Real Madrid before the Confederation Cup tournament.
"Iker came to the dressing room to talk to me and I told him to have a discussion with Mourinho, which is difficult but he had to face it," he added.
"Mourinho likes to get in the faces of those players who are considered stars at the teams that he manages," Cesar concluded.
