CAIRO – 16 April 2018: Neymar, the Brazilian star of PSG, has revealed in an interview with the program “Altas Horas” on Brazilian television how his friendship began with Lionel Messi, the Argentinean star of Barcelona. This relationship, according to Neymar, began in a curious way.
Neymar has explained that he went through a few moments of doubt in Barcelona. Neymar recalled that he had a difficult start in Barcelona, as things did not go his way.
“I remember a game with Barcelona. I was nearly crying because things weren’t coming off for me,” Neymar said during the interview in “Altas Horas” according to SPORT magazine.
“It was half-time and Messi came up to me and told me that I only had to be the same player I had always been, to be myself,” he added.
“‘You have to be yourself,’ he told me. ‘You can’t be intimidated to be playing alongside me or [Andres] Iniesta,’ he insisted."
“To see the humility of a guy that has won it all, that is the best thing in the world, asking you to be yourself and show your best, without any kind of vanity, was something I loved.”
Neymar left Barcelona last summer to join Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million, making him the most expensive player in history.
“I tell that story all the time to my family, to my friends. He helped me a lot professionally, of course, but also personally.”
