CAIRO – 12 April 2018: Former Bayern Munich Dutch manager, Louis Van Gaal revealed on Thursday that Bayern Munich are the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League title.
“If I have to bet now, I would put my money on Bayern Munich,” Van Gaal told press on Thursday.
Bayern Munich reached the semi-finals as they ended the quarter finals second leg against Sevilla in Munich with a goalless draw to go through after their 2-1 victory at the first leg in Spain.
Van Gaal added, “In my opinion, they have the best defense and a coach who adapts his team to the opponent, but he also assumes his own qualities, which is the key to success."
The Dutch coach managed Bayern Munich between 2009 and 2011; he led them to the 2010 UEFA Champions League finals when they lost 2-0 to Inter Milan.
Van Gaal ruled Liverpool and Roma out of the title race; he claimed that in comparison to the other teams, especially Real and Bayern, Liverpool and Roma have less individual quality.
Roma reached the semi-finals for the first time since 1984 while Liverpool reached that stage for the first time since 2008.
He added, “But in principle they are not candidates, they are good teams that are always dangerous.”
