CAIRO – 14 March 2018: Sky Sports announced on Wednesday that former Liverpool player and current pundit Jamie Carragher’s suspension will continue until the end of the season.
“Following an internal review, Sky has suspended Jamie Carragher for the remainder of the football season,” Sky Sports said in a statement on Wednesday.
Carragher was filmed spitting on a Manchester United fan and his daughter as they mocked him after Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Sky Sports’ statement added, “Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again.”
Sky Sports suspended Carragher directly after the incident, but his apologies to the family and to the public were welcomed.
Sky Sports finished their statement saying, “Before the start of the next season, we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role."
Carragher is a former international English player who spent his whole career at his childhood club, Liverpool, and he played a key role in Liverpool’s campaign to win the 2005 Champions League title.
Carragher retired in 2013 and since then started working as a pundit for Sky Sports.
