Mohamed Aboutrika celebrates his last African title with Al Ahly, CAF official account on twitter
CAIRO – 13 March 2018: After the Court of Cassation’s recommendation on Monday to cancel the Criminal Court’s decision and remove former Egyptian international Mohamed Aboutrika from a terror list, Aboutrika tweeted on Tuesday that he will return to Egypt soon.
In September 2017, Aboutrika was added to a terror list for alleged links to Muslim Brotherhood members and for supporting ousted President Mohammed Morsi. The list subjects him to a travel ban and an asset freeze.
Aboutrika was accused in 2015 of funding the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group; therefore, the committee tasked with investigating and appropriating the assets of members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood decided in May 2015 to confiscate the assets of Ashab Tours, a tourism company co-founded in 2013 by Aboutrika.
Aboutrika is a Tersana academy product and he got promoted through the club rankings until he joined the first team in 1997. He played seven years for the club before joining Al-Ahly in 2004.
Aboutrika established himself as one of the best players in Al-Ahly’s history, as he led the club to win five CAF Champions League titles, seven Egyptian League titles and two Egyptian Cup titles.
The footballer was a member of Egypt’s national team during their golden era, and he won two African Cup of Nations titles in 2006 and 2008.
