CAIRO – 9 March 2018: Leicester City’s Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez, revealed on Thursday that he regrets his behavior with the club after they rejected Man City’s offer to sign him in the winter transfer market.
“You'll always have regrets but at that time I thought it was the best thing to do. Manchester City is a good move for everyone but it is the past. It is behind me,” Mahrez told Sky Sports on Thursday.
Mahrez, 26, has been linked with a move to Man City but the club’s bid did not match Leicester’s financial requirements.
Mahrez did not attend Leicester City’s training sessions for a couple of days to force the club to complete the deal but he eventually returned on a train with his teammates after a week.
Mahrez added: “It was difficult; I've always been in contact with the club. The club handled it very well. When the team-mates and the club were behind me it was OK, it was very easy to come back here."
Mahrez scored a late free kick to grant his team a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday.
