CAIRO – 7 March 2018: Porto’s Spanish goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, revealed on Wednesday that he is grateful for Liverpool fans who supported him during Porto’s game against Liverpool on Tuesday night in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
“I want to thank Liverpool fans for the affection they showed; they respect players a lot. I've spent a lot of years in this competition, and coming to a stadium like this and being applauded like that is superb," Casillas told Spanish Radio after the game.
Casillas prevented Liverpool from the victory when he saved Danny Ings’ stunning header only two minutes before the final whistle to end the game 0-0.
Despite a goalless draw in the second leg, Liverpool qualified to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, as they won 5-0 in the first leg in Portugal.
Casillas, 36, spoke about his team’s ambition after their Champions League loss, saying, “We are in the home stretch of the season and we want to concentrate on the championship; it's our top priority."
Porto leads the Portuguese League table, 5 points ahead of the second-placed Benfica.
