CAIRO – 25 February 2018: The African Champions League winner Wydad Athletic Club added on Saturday another title to its record as the winner of the CAF Super Cup, after defeating Congo’s Mazembe 1- 0.
Wydad won the first Super Cup in its history and the third in the history of Moroccan teams. The CAF Super Cup is presented for the team that wins the game between the African Champions League’s winner and the CAF Confederation Cup winner; the match is always hosted by the Champions League winner.
Although Egypt hasn't won the Super Cup since 2014, the Egyptians still rank first as holders of the Cup for nine times.
Al Ahly comes in the first place as the Club of the Century won the title six times (2002, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013, 2014), then Zamalek comes second as usual with a Super Cup record of three titles (1994, 1997, 2003).
Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel won the Super Cup two times (1998, 2008). Teams that managed to win the title for one time only are Espérance Sportive de Tunis (1995), Raja Club Athletic (2000), Maghreb Association Sportive de Fès (2012), Entente Sportive de Sétif (2015) and most recently Wydad Athletic Club.
