CAIRO – 22 February 2018: Barcelona announced on Thursday that their Spanish midfielder, Sergi Roberto, has renewed his contract with the club until 2022.

“I have always wanted to be here, I have been a Barca fan since I was little, I have been at Barca for 12 years and my objective is to stay as long as possible,” Roberto told the press after signing his new contract.

Roberto, 26, is a Barcelona academy product and he spent all his life as a footballer inside the Catalan club. He joined the club academy when he was 14 and since then he established himself as one of the most promising talents at the club’s academy.

“Sergi is an example for many players. We are grateful for his patience, his perseverance. He's had and will have a lot of offers, but we're thankful that he's decided to stay here,” Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, told the press after Roberto signed his contract.

Roberto joined the first team in 2010 under Pep Guardiola and he struggled five years to earn a position at the starting line-up but in 2015, Roberto became one of the starters at Barcelona squad.

Roberto has achieved 13 titles with Barcelona including two UEGA Champions League titles in 2011 and 2015 and four Spanish League titles.
