CAIRO – 8 February 2018: Riyad Mahrez’s decision to go on strike in Leicester City is an attempt to pressurize his team to let him sign with Manchester City. However, this move was not well received by Pep Guardiola.
The Spanish coach is considering excluding the name of the Algerian footballer from his future plans for next season, according to the English newspaper “Mirror”.
Leicester City dismissed an offer by Manchester City of more than €74 million ($92.5 million) in the past winter market.
The decision of the club did not please Mahrez at all, as he tried by all means to sign the proposal.
The Algerian has already missed two official games (Everton and Swansea), and he also does not participate in the training sessions with his teammates.
Mahrez's attitude is an unexpected problem for Leicester’s coach Claude Puel. The coach does not find a way to solve the conflict between the player and the club and ends up losing his most important player in the squad, which resulted in his team’s defeat in both games.
Despite the characteristics of Riyad who fits perfectly into the philosophy of the Catalan coach, the strike action by the Algerian makes Guardiola question whether the player is the right choice for the team.
Pep, according to “Mirror”, had already instructed the leaders of his club to exclude Mahrez off the list of future events. Pep wants committed players inside and outside the field, but especially committed to the club.
