CAIRO – 08 February 2018: Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abd el-Aziz revealed that Egyptian fans can attend Egyptian Cup matches starting from the quarter-final.

“We sent a letter to the EFA [Egyptian Football Association] to assure the confirmation of both Youth & Sports ministry and Interior ministry concerning the fans’ attendance to football matches,” Mr. Abd el-Aziz stated to Al-Hadaf Radio station.

“However, some clubs objected the lack of equal opportunities, so the return of the fans was disrupted,” He added.

Fans in Egypt were banned from attending matches six years ago, February 2012, because of the Port-Said disaster where 72 victims were killed during the Al Ahly vs. Al Masry league match.

“I assure you that the matches of the Egyptian Cup from the quarter-finals to the final of the tournament will be attended by the fans, because matches are held from one stage and in neutral stadiums,” he said.

"We tried to get the fans back and take advantage of Egypt's qualification for the World Cup, but some of the actions in the UAFA Club Arab Championship last August have worried us, so we preferred to postpone the return of the fans in the league for next season," he concluded.

The EFA announced that fans can attend Al Ahly’s match against Al Dakhleya in the Cup’s 16th round.

Al Assiouty Sport will play the winner from the Al Ahly – Al Dakhleya clash in the quarter-final.
