Arsenal considering renewing Elneny’s contract

CAIRO – 3 February 2018: Trusted BBC radio correspondent David Ornstein revealed that Arsenal is considering the idea of renewing the contract of their Egyptian midfielder, Mohamed Elneny.

Elneny joined Arsenal, coming from FC Basel, in January 2016 in a contract that will end in 2020.



But it seems that Elneny will be an Arsenal player for a longer time.

Ornstein has talked about Elneny in his weekly program “Arsblog”, saying, “Elneny was available in the past summer transfer market in case he received a proper offer.”

“The situation is different now. Arsenal is considering the idea of giving their Egyptian midfielder a new contract, as he is the only defensive midfielder in Arsenal’s squad,” Ornstein added.

Arsenal sold their defensive midfielder, Francis Coquelin, in the past winter transfer market to Valencia.

“In the past winter transfer market, Arsenal weren’t looking for a defensive midfielder to sign; it seems that they are putting their trust in their Egyptian one,” Ornstein concluded.



Elneny featured in 20 matches this season with Arsenal; he succeeded to score one goal and provided two assists.

Since he joined Arsenal, Elneny played 60 games in all the competitions, scored two goals and managed to assist in five goals.

He has won an English FA Cup title as well as a Community Shield medal during his time in London.
