CAIRO – 2 February 2018: The United States has rejected once again the application for the entry visa of the Argentinean legend Diego Armando Maradona.
The reason why Maradona’s visa application was rejected once again is because the Argentinean star has criticized President Donald Trump.
Maradona, current coach of the Al Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates, intended to travel to the U.S. to witness the civil trial initiated against his ex-wife Claudia Villafañe, but it seems that he will not be able to fulfill his wish.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Maradona said in an interview with Venezuelan television network TeleSur: "Donald Trump is a chirolita." Chirolita is a slang term and common insult in Argentina that refers to people who are under the orders of others as puppets.
Matías Morla, Maradona’s lawyer, told national news program ‘Buenos Dias America’ that at the time Maradona was giving the interview, he was in the process of applying for a visa to the States.
Morla said that following Maradona’s choice comments, he told the ex-player, "after this, I said I'm going to have to represent you in Miami instead."
Also, the United States had previously denied the application of the visa to Maradona since he was tested positive in the 1994 World Cup.
