Barcelona announced on Monday that their club’s Belgian defender, Thomas Vermaelen, will be out for two weeks.

“FC Barcelona’s medical services have confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen has a hamstring injury in his left leg, and tests on Monday have ascertained that the Belgian defender will be out for around two weeks,” a Barcelona statement said.

Vermaelen, 32, got substituted minutes before half time to be replaced by Samuel Umtiti, who has recently returned from a two-month injury.

Vermaelen joined Barcelona in 2014 from Arsenal but only found success with the club this season.

He participated in 13 games with Barcelona this season, seven in the league and five in the Cup, as well as Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League.

Vermaelen is expected to miss the Espanyol game in the Cup and two games in the Spanish League against Levante and Espanyol. He is expected to return ahead of the Getafe game on Feb. 11.
