Earlier in March, Zamalek and Misr el-Makasa league encounter spiraled into a huge deal of controversy after Al-Zamalek had denied of a flagrant penalty, causing the game to end 1-0 in favor of el-Makasa in the first fixture.

In response, Zamalek SC’s president Mortada Mansour consistently kept threatening to withdraw from the competition unless the game will not be replayed, which has been completely rejected by the EFA board and Zamalek did not withdraw from the competition.
